The Netherlands is a northwestern European country known for its flat landscape of canals, tulip fields, mills, and cycle paths. Amsterdam, the capital, is home to the Rijksmuseum, the van Gogh Museum and the house where the young Jewish Anne Frank hid and wrote her diary during World War II. Canalside mansions and a treasure trove of works by artists, like Rembrandt and Vermeer, remain from the city's "Golden Age" in the XVII century.
